The Hartford Obedience Training Club (HOTC) was founded in 1937 as a branch of the Nutmeg Dog Club, when the sport of Obedience was sweeping the nation. Despite setbacks, like the periodic loss of training quarters, HOTC has remained in uninterrupted existence since its inception. As such, HOTC is the oldest continuously operating training club in the country. The routines employed by our instructors are American Kennel Club (AKC) approved so that, if you so desire, you may enter AKC sanctioned matches or trials. We encourage those students who wish to enter AKC sanctioned events to do so and earn their Obedience titles.
We welcome ALL dogs, not just purebreds. The Club’s goals are to teach people to train their dogs to their highest skill in Obedience, which makes all dogs better companions and creates a bond between owner and dog that transcends competition or showing. A variety of classes including Beginners, Noseworks, Rally, Family Dog, Competition and Specials are offered every Thursday Evening from 5:30 to 9:30 pm at our training facility located at 454 Oakwood Avenue in West Hartford. The training facility is located in the brick building adjacent to the Connecticut Veterinary Center’s main hospital.
